Life and it’s absence

AUTHOR: R.N
One day as you’re going through…. sorry, trudging through life, you are rudely reminded that life’s fragile. What a cliché statement. I mean yes we only live once and don’t take your loved ones for granted. We’ve heard it all.
As Kobe’s life story flashes by us every minute. You realise one thing.

We are not all “just going to die”.
Physically yes. But let’s speak the truth. There’s people who die and their bodies are not claimed at the morgue.

There’s people who are going to die and controversy will mask their family with shame months after, followed by messy court scandals and revelations that not only harm their families but shock them, and no matter how angry they are they cannot confront the dead.

There’s people who are going to die and it’s honestly a sigh of relief. Turbulent and troubled hearts battling with addictions and convictions- mothers that barely slept while they were alive will get closure and acceptance of “God’s will” and sleep finally knowing the wandering soul has gone home.

There’s people who there will be nothing much to say, a few loved ones and quiet send offs. They lived life scared as a mouse, played it safe with everything and everyone. Never harmed a soul but never awakened it either. Never lit a fire because they never had a spark. The don’t eat so that you don’t choke persons. They don’t know what it means to yell…in pain, in anger or even with happiness. They never failed because they never tried. They did everything that was required of them, and became the doormat for everyone. They sang with their beautiful gifted voices in low tones in their kitchens. They dreamt of solo acts in front of large crowds but that was it, just a dream. They really thought they were not enough, even when their hands sketched art so easily and smoothly, even as they sang lullabies to their children with vocals closer to Dion. They let the whole world pass them by, they never called the friend who trued but got tired, they never visited the old lady nor the young mother- never talked to strangers about the weather.

And there’s people like Kobe Bryant. Who took the word blood, sweat and tears literally. Those who acknowledged when they went wrong, admitted in his apology that there was no consent in the eyes of the lady he was accused of sexually assaulting. Those who work every day to change the villain narrative, not seek for sympathy but pay dues. Those who are humble yet bold enough to learn from mistakes yet not scared to try at life again. Those who wake up every day to make the world a better place. Those who love and live fully and selflessly.

Let no one lie that we are equal in death. Some continue to live on in the tongues of the mortals.
