Ask And You Will Receive

Where there is hope, there is faith. Where there is faith, miracles happen.

The old man was set to come visit me once again. This time I was eagerly waiting to see him and listen to his prayer. The last time he prayed I felt closer to heaven. In my mind I imagined the different prayers he would offer. “Let me be patient” I said to myself.

The time had come and I heard him

Knock on the door. He walked in, removed his cap and offered a prayer before greeting us. It was uplifting as before; I was blessed.

After he had finished he decided to tell us a story.

He asked, “My son, have you ever spoken to God?” I was confused... This was very unexpected and I didn’t know the correct answer. I quickly thought to myself that prayer is talking to God. I then mumbled something that was between a yes and a no.

He smiled and continued with his story.

Long ago when he was building his house, just when he was about to finish with the roofing, he realized that he was short of three iron sheets.

It was about 6pm in the evening and the hardware stores had been closed, the workers were tired and about to leave and he had used all his money to the penny.

With all hope lost, he allowed the men to leave and decided to stay in a house with a part open roof.

Darkness quickly engulfed the sky and together with the wife they decided to sleep in a corner where there was shelter just in case it rained.

While in bed, this old man started to talk by himself citing the happenings of the day. The wife was perplexed and asked him if he was okay and the reason he was talking to himself.

He quickly replied, “I’m talking to God.”

In his conversation he thanked God for many things including the house he had just built and he asked God, “My Lord, I only have two remaining goats and I don’t want to sell them in order to buy the iron sheets for my roof. My Father, please provide in your own special way; I’m sure you are able but, as it pleases you Lord. Amen!!

Early in the morning, the old man set to the market. He had not even walked far from home when he met a young man who owned a hardware shop and with him bundled iron sheets on his motorbike.

He stopped and told the old man that he heard from some of the builders that he had built a house but had three iron sheets missing and so he decided to donate them to him.

He prayed, put his desires and needs to The Lord and God answered.

Have you ever spoken to God?

  1. He always comes through...in so many different ways and to different people for sure...faith over fear

  2. It is easy to lose faith in this highly competitive world. I am encouraged that God is all over and that he hears prayers. He works in ways that are different from man's.
