Champagne dreams on a beer budget

Our society is rotten. We portray lives we can’t afford. Everybody purchasing the latest… nobody wants to miss out. If it’s trendy, I’d better be there or I must have it. 

Employed Young fellas using all their salaries or business profits to keep up. Keeping up in a world that moves so fast that what’s trending today might be old school in days.

I don’t talk about these like I’m special. I’ve partaken in this foolishness too. I call it foolishness because no sooner than we come to our senses, we have wasted time, money and resources. Things that ought to have built us. 

What’s the point of spending 80% of your rent to live in a posh estate just to look cool or be envied by friends? You de craze!!

I envy my old folks who had priorities. My old man didn’t mind using public means while going to work for a very long time not because he couldn’t afford a vehicle but he just had other important issues. This man had that television with a big back until recently just because he still believed it was serving it’s purpose. He stayed with his Motorola until the phone could barely function and spares were no longer available to repair it. 

And I not only see these traits in my parents but from several of the old timers. 

What’s happening? Is the society too demanding from this generation??

It’s time to reflect and do the right thing/s.
